Armed with decades of experience and his eye for detail and vision, Mr. Mahesh Desai founded Hetu Construction in 1978 with a simple belief - “quality is remembered long after cost is forgotten”. The company became a private limited enterprise in 1985, but its principles never changed.

Mr. Mahesh Desai’s journey was not without hardships, he faced setbacks that could have ended the company but he refused to compromise on his ethics or the quality of his work and grew with every challenge. Over time, architects, consultants and clients began placing their trust in Hetu. That trust became the company's greatest asset, Mr. Mahesh Desai’s belief that buildings should not simply be completed, they should endure.

In 2005, the company faced its greatest test with the passing of Mr. Mahesh Desai. Leadership passed to his son, Mr. Tushar M. Desai, who inherited far more than a construction company. He inherited a legacy that was created with years of hard work and unwavering ethics. An engineer by training and a lifelong student of construction, Mr. Tushar M. Desai brought a different style of leadership. Quiet rather than loud. Observant rather than impulsive. Curious rather than complacent.

His passion for travelling the world exposed him to new technologies, modern construction practices and evolving engineering systems, many of which he introduced into Hetu's way of working. The company profile specifically highlights his focus on bringing international techniques and machinery into the business while combining technical knowledge with strong management. Even today, Mr. Tushar M. Desai keeps a keen eye out for new technologies and upgrades. Under his stewardship, Hetu had entered a new era.

The years that followed saw the company undertake increasingly sophisticated industrial, institutional and commercial developments. Industrial facilities for Sintex Industries, Murugappa Morgan Thermal Ceramics, SKAPS Industries at Adani Mundra SEZ, and Ankur Textiles reflected Hetu's growing capability in complex engineering projects.

Commercial landmarks such as the Gala Business Centres, the Dishman Pharmaceuticals Office Building, the IRIS Products Corporate Campus, and the SMS Investors Office Building demonstrated the confidence that leading businesses placed in Hetu's execution. The company also continued to create spaces that enrich communities—from the NID Hostel Block, the Gulmohar Golf & Country Club, and The Sports Club of Gujarat Club House, to healthcare facilities like Shalby Hospital. Each project reflected the same belief that buildings should not simply serve a purpose today, but continue serving generations tomorrow.

Today, nearly five decades later, Hetu has entered its third generation with Mr. Hirak T. Desai, an alumnus of CEPT University, who carries forward his grandfather's unwavering values, his father's discerning eye for excellence, and his own contemporary vision for shaping timeless buildings that honour both heritage and the future.
